Our Story

A Legacy of Farming

Walt Hagood has been raising cotton, feed grains, and cattle in Hockley, Lynn, and Garza counties for 46 years.

He began farming in 1979 after a landowner chose him as his tenant, even though six other growers were interested, but he believed in the young guy.

During this time, Walt has served in numerous ways to advance the future of agriculture. His experience:

  • Current Board Member of Lubbock County Farm Bureau

  • Former President of Lynn/Garza County Farm Bureau

  • Chaired Texas Farm Bureau Cotton Advisory Committee

  • Former State Director for District II

  • Subchaired on the Resolutions Committee

  • Chaired Texas Farm Bureau Public Policy Committee

  • Three years as Secretary/Treasure of Texas Farm Bureau

  • Chaired Texas Farm Bureau Audit Committee

  • 2018 Graduate of Texas Farm Bureau FarmLead

  • 26 years on the board of a community bank

  • Former school board president

During that, Walt has learned to navigate challenges, mitigate risks, finance an operation, and support his agriculture community.

Walt's heart is shown by how he's helped young farmers get started in the industry, and how he's carried himself through each stage of life.
