Walt's Message to You
After Adam’s disobedience, God put him out of the garden, saying, "Through painful toil you will eat food from the ground all the days of your life." Those of us who love agriculture have endured extreme volatility in markets, weather, disease, pests, and weeds for as long as I can remember. Through my 46 years raising cotton, feed grains, and cattle, there has always been uncertainty. Yet, like each of you, I will never give up, because giving up is not in our DNA.
My name is Walt Hagood, I am a cotton farmer near Wolfforth. My wife, Glinda, and I have been married for 44 years. We are blessed with two beautiful daughters and six amazing grandchildren. Over the years, I’ve been actively engaged as an agriculture producer. I’ve spent years gaining experience learning to mitigate risks, finance an operation, and support producers.
I began farming in 1979 after a landowner chose me as his tenant, even though six other growers were interested. He told me he believed in helping the young guy. That opportunity launched my 46-year career, and I have never forgotten it. His heart to support the next generation became my heart as well. In recent years, I have had the privilege to mentor three young men, helping them with land, equipment, and the financial side of farming.
At Texas Farm Bureau, we support the young farmer, the seasoned farmer, and anyone who shares a passion for agriculture. Through our connections with elected officials and involvement in agricultural policy, we work to advocate for the needs of all farmers and ranchers. Our purpose is to advocate, teach, grow, and nurture.
My experience includes serving as a current Board Member of Lubbock County Farm Bureau, former President of Lynn/Garza County Farm Bureau, chaired Texas Farm Bureau Cotton Advisory Committee, former State Director for District II, subchaired on the Resolutions Committee, chaired Texas Farm Bureau Public Policy Committee, three years as Secretary/Treasurer of Texas Farm Bureau, chaired Texas Farm Bureau Audit Committee, 26 years on the board of a community bank, former school board president, and serving in many other agriculture organizations. I am running for President of the Texas Farm Bureau because of my passion and dedication. I want to see all farmers and ranchers succeed as we work together to feed the world.
Each of you have inspired me through your passion, grit, and determination. My family and I are honored to be part of this incredible organization. My commitment to you is this: I will never give up, I will never stop fighting for you, and I will always support our grassroots efforts. I promise to advocate for our members at all levels.
Sincerely,
J. Walt Hagood
